1	Comment on the GOAL(S) of the lesson (with reference to the learners’ ability, level & profile):	The goal meets the needs of the students in the middle and higher ability classes. We feel that this introduction to the application of circles is suitable for the primary 6 level.
2	Comment on the OBJECTIVE(S) of the lesson (with reference to the learning outcomes that are observable and assessable, aligned with the goals?):	It is a good introduction to concepts relating to a circle especially the radius and diameter, which students commonly misunderstand. Be it for higher or middle ability students, it is good for them to learn the techniques to draw a circle using the compass. The relation of the radius, circumference and diameter should be one of the lesson objectives and also explicitly shown and explained to the students.
3	Comment on the INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES and use/choice of ICT TOOLs : Identify some instructional activities the teacher implemented; analyze the appropriateness of the activities to the goals, objectives & pupil profile. Feedback on student directed vs teacher directed activities and inclusion of dimensions of meaningful learning c) The suitability of the use/choice of ICT tools AND non-ICT tools to the activities planned.	The students are asked to find out how to get the radius and circumference of the circle independently after the concepts of radius, diameter and circumference were briefly introduced by the teacher. It is good that the students get the opportunity to find out about the concepts themselves through the hands-on activity. However, it might not be advisable as students might not have grasped the concepts. This would not have catered to the needs of the middle ability students. Teacher should have a verbal feedback session to check if the students know what the concepts of circles are before the activity-based lesson. The only ICT tool to be used is Excel Macro to identify circles from the list of shapes given. Other non-ICT activities aim to teach the students techniques to use a compass, and usage of a string to find the value of pi (π).

4	Comment on the IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS (what could have gone well or wrong; some suggestions for improvement)	The implementation process is clear such that it allows the students to register the concepts of radius, diameter, circumference and also the formulas relating to circles. Arguments among the students. An improvement to the process would be that the teacher should flash the instructions on the screen so as the students would not be confused during the experiment.
5	Comment on ASSESSMENT (Focus on the appropriateness to the goals and objectives)	The teacher merely asks them what they understood about the concepts of a Circle. The teacher should have given the students a reflect sheet to fill up, or a mini quiz to ensure that the students have internalized the concepts of a Circle.

ICT PreActivity

Goals of Masterplan 1 1. To promote exchanges between school and the communities outside, so both teachers and students are able to view and consider issues from different angles.

2. To aid in encouraging students to practice creative thinking, and learn to work as a team.

3. To have new teaching approaches through the integration of ICT.

4. To aid in administrative and management matters of the school.

Why Important?

It is important for MOE to develop this Masterplan as it allows the pupils and teachers to reach out to more educational materials online, and to not restrict learning to within the classroom. Also, it makes information easily obtainable. Having a new teaching approach through ICT aims to achieve a more interactive lesson nature.

Goals of Masterplan 2

Masterplan 2 aims to enhance educational processes and structures. It leverages on ICT as a tool to customize education to meet the needs and abilities of the pupils; to support and develop lifelong learners while working towards the overall vision of “Thinking Schools, Learning Nation.” (Teach Less Learn More)

Why important?

Masterplan 2 aims to further enhance the experience of the first Masterplan, which would steer Singapore’s education system towards the “Teach Less, Learn More” scheme. After being able to receive an all-rounded education, the students would then be able to develop on their non-academic skills and individual character, which are also important to successful living. It would also encourage the development of the child’s ability to be an independent/active learner.

Goal of Masterplan 3

For the teachers to take up the role as a leader, to encourage students to be active learners and do collaborative learning through ICT, as well as to become conscientious and subtle ICT users.

Why important?

It encourages students to develop inter-personal skills, and to enable them to develop explanatory skills. It also promotes variation in the views of the students as they will then be able to interact internationally. Cyber-wellness is also taught to the students to prepare themselves to face the cyber world.

Qn2.

My learning journey has been made an interesting one by the 2^nd Masterplan. The usage of the data logger during science practical sessions has made the subject and/or activity a more interactive one.

There is also the Graphic Calculator (GC) during my Junior College days, used for tackling Mathematics questions. With the applications installed in the calculator, which enables functions like the plotting of graphs, solving of polynomials…etc, it has made computing of answers easily. The tutors could then pay more attention to teaching the principles behind the solving methods.

Of course, through my Secondary school and Junior College days, there is the incorporation of

E-Learning into our curriculum. The easily accessible archive of the E-Lessons has also made revision more effective and interactive. With the usage of both audio and video, as well as the transcript being made available, the e-Lessons are thus effective in catering to the needs of Audio, Visual and Kinetic Learners.

Qn3.

Teachers will have the capacity to create helpful structures for their own school and classrooms. We will need to customize these structures, so that we can meet the unique needs of school and classroom, and to challenge the students to reach a new level of thinking. Teachers are also to facilitate the student’s learning through the “question and answer” technique.
